The layout of the Employment Tribunal

The Employment Tribunal is much less formal than a Court - for example, nobody wears formal court attire such as wigs or gowns.

The Tribunal room is set out as shown in the diagram below.

The layout of the tribunal room 

You will be led into the room by a Tribunal Clerk. You or your representative and your employer's representative will sit facing the Tribunal panel, your employer on the left and you or your representative on the right.

If you have a representative, you will sit next to them, or behind them. Witnesses will usually sit in chairs behind the representatives.

The Tribunal room also has an area for members of the public to sit. This is where any friends or family attending with you may sit if they are not part of the proceedings.
